چکیده
Morpho-physiological and biochemical changes in developing cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) seeds were monitored under both open field (E1) protected environments (E2) during 2019 at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. Fruits developed from hand pollinated flowers, Pusa Barkha Uday varieties harvested five-day intervals. The environment influenced days to maturity development of fruit and/or seed. Irrespective varieties, seasons environments, seed moisture decreased (over three folds); fresh dry weights increased (one & half folds, respectively). Electrical conductance (EC), total soluble sugars (TSS) proteins (TSP), leachates, followed a bell-shape pattern. reserve accumulation (TSS, starch, TSP oil) registered an increase weights; the filling continued up maturity. ROS activity (H2O2& O2-) initially then significantly A significant decrease antioxidant enzymes indicated desiccation resistance. Seeds attained maximum germination (70.0 &73.2%), vigour-I (1114.3 &1323.1), vigour-II (8.61 9.55) 40 DFP&50 DFP; (19.9 20.15 mg/seed) E1&E2, respectively.

Assessment of genetic variation in cucumber ( Cucumis sativus L . ) genotypes
In this research, twenty genotypes of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) were studied that were collected from different geographical regions. The experiment was conducted as a randomized complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications in Greenhouse. Data was collected on morphological features, yield and components of yield of cucumber which include: Total fruit yield per pickling, Fruit number pe...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity and Population Structure of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)
Knowing the extent and structure of genetic variation in germplasm collections is essential for the conservation and utilization of biodiversity in cultivated plants. Cucumber is the fourth most important vegetable crop worldwide and is a model system for other Cucurbitaceae, a family that also includes melon, watermelon, pumpkin and squash. Previous isozyme studies revealed a low genetic diver...
متن کاملPhotochlorophyll Biosynthesis in Cucumber (Cucumis sativus, L.) Cotyledons.
The formation of protochlorophyllide and protochlorophyllide phytyl ester was investigated during etioplast biogenesis in order to study the biosynthetic relation of these two compounds. Protochlorophyllide accumulates slowly during the first 2 days of germination, its rate of formation increases sharply during the 3rd day, and then it decreases. Protochlorophyllide phytyl ester starts accumula...
متن کاملAgrobacterium-Mediated Transformation in Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)
Introduction. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is an important horticultural crop. Its fruits are used for slicing and pickling and juice extraction worldwide. In India, both the fruits and seeds have long been used in the manufacture of traditional medicines that act as skin conditioners, diuretics and body coolants. Thus, cucumber is a potential candidate for an edible vaccine (6). In India, stu...
متن کاملHANABA TARANU regulates the shoot apical meristem and leaf development in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.).
The shoot apical meristem (SAM) is essential for continuous organogenesis in higher plants, while the leaf is the primary source organ and the leaf shape directly affects the efficiency of photosynthesis. HANABA TARANU (HAN) encodes a GATA3-type transcription factor that functions in floral organ development, SAM organization, and embryo development in Arabidopsis, but is involved in suppressin...
